The global micro blogging and social media portal of Twitter was renamed and re-branded as X in May 2024.
X to XXX: The American social media giant X is turning into an adult site with increasing trend of such content on the portal. Beginning in 2006, the portal turned into a mainstream social media tool for everyone on the planet. Whether it was the government or any business, the celebrities, officials, sportsmen or common citizens. Twitter served as a platform to share their opinions precisely, i.e. in 140 characters. The 140 characters were amazing since the limit would allow only a few sentences for anyone to share all they wanted to add.
However, it changed with Elon Musk’s involvement into the social media giant. Elon Musk bought Twitter in October 2022 for US$44 billion. Later, he rebranded the portal as X. Little was it known that the website may turn into an adult content website so soon.
Twitter’s Journey to X
While Twitter had a huge following with over 330 million active users by 2019. The portal was offering several solutions including spaces, audio rooms and super follows. Mr. Musk introduced several new features on the platform. These were the long form tweets, account monetization options, audio-video calls as well as job search features. One of the most interesting add ups were Grok and xAI. Mr. Musk keeps bringing the new features to the portal.
For instance, X has recently begun publishing the country of the X accounts including the region of the Google Playstore it is connected to. Interestingly, X continues to test several new features on daily basis. One new feature is allowing Grok to alter images on X. A user can post anyone’s image and command Grok to change its background, remove or change cloths or produce an animation from it.
While it may seem interesting, it is also an alarming technology. It affects privacy of individuals and it can have far reaching impact on lives of affected people. Imagine an ordinary man or woman in any part of the world with an ability to develop anything out o their image. A simple command to Grok asking for a nude image of a person can be developed. Similarly, an image of a person who is fully clothed can be turned into semi clothed or turned into a fantasy-based picture. Gen Z and the newer generations seem unstoppable in the trend.
X Turning into XXX
The term XXX refers to pornography as a slang. On the other hand, X has multiple meanings in its single alphabet term. X refers to number ten in the algorithmic language. Mr. Musk branded Twitter as X owing to the popularity and universality of the term across the globe. However, the users at X are probably using it to the contrary.
The X rules and policies section clearly covers such instances. For instance, X (formerly Twitter) developed a comprehensive non-consensual nudity policy in December 2021. It clearly states, “You may not post or share intimate photos or videos of someone that were produced or distributed without their consent.” It further adds: Sharing explicit sexual images or videos of someone online without their consent is a severe violation of their privacy and the X Rules.
Interestingly, pornography is fully acceptable to X. “Pornography and other forms of consensually produced adult content are allowed on X, provided that this media is marked as sensitive,” states X non-consensual nudity policy. Probably, the users are taking advantage of this section when it comes to publishing XXX content on X.
Grok and X
The combination of Grok and X is further stealthy in nature as users can ask Grok to produce any content they want. And it is very risky as well. For instance, some users ask Grok to change their outfits. Others ask it to remove them. And what Grok does? It complies. For instance, a user on X posted her image with a title do you think you could make me blush?
Later, the same user asked Grok to make her outfit transparent. What we see next is a nude image.
Another user posts a fully clothed image of herself sitting on a couch with semi spread legs.
She also asks Grok to put her in Bikini from the same angle. Grok complies and produces an image for her.
Interestingly, Grok is able to produce fictional images of people. A woman posted her photo on X in a Bikini and asked Grok to put a guy that hugs her from the back.
Grok complies with the user’s demand. Resultant, Grok adds an image of a guy who is hugging her from the back. See it yourself.
It shows how simple it has become to involve anyone in the game. One can ask Grok to change locations, include people, develop videos or literally anything. And it is all in the imagination without any reality. What is left in this domain?
X and Pornography
While all social media sites have been proposing highest standards of engagement and child sensitive policies; it seems that artificial intelligence may change the course. The risks involved in producing pornographic content through AI are higher than any other medium. Interestingly, the deepfakes were being considered a threat not very long ago. However, the current trend shows that it may not be a thing of past anymore.
Yet, there stands another challenge for X users. The in-principle approval of pornographic content posted by users themselves is allowed on X. Thus, it allows the porn workers to showcase their work and solicit for their services on X as well. It is resulting in a huge challenge for X users who may be looking at it as a social website. However, it is turning into a portal for pornographic services.
